 No
words can truly describe the excitement that most guests feel as
they approach the Disneyland Resort for the 1st (or 21st) time.
Those guests arriving by road might spot some of the resorts
landmarks while still some miles away on the A4 motorway.
As they draw closer to the area the familiar shapes of the theme
parks icons come into view. At the Disneyland Park the spires of Le
Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant reach for the sky, flanked on
either side by the Disneyland Mountains, to the left the chiselled
face of Big Thunder Mountain and to the right the futuristic
architecture of Space Mountain. Close by the structures that form
the Walt Disney Studios can also be easily defined, the massive
Studio 1 sits between its smaller counter parts of Studios 2 and 3
while the Studios is crowned by a icon of its own stunning "Earful
Tower"
Back in the 1930's water towers were a familiar sight on the streets
of Hollywood. These impressive structures were used to heat and cool
the air in the various buildings throughout studios complex and
control fires that started on property. Although today their primary
use are redundant many of these towers still remain, standing as
impressive landmarks at the entrance to many of the studios.
Following the 1937 success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Walt
Disney invested in a 51-acre plot of land in Burbank California,
which would become home of the Disney film and later, television
production. This was also the home of the original water tower from
which the Walt Disney Studios theme park version takes its
inspiration. |
Unbeschreiblich ist die Erregung, die Besucher beim ersten (oder
21.) Besuch des Disneyland Resort Paris überkommt. Einige
Wahrzeichen des Resorts sind bereits von der Autobahn A 4 aus zu
erkennen.
Wenn man näher kommt, nehmen die bekannten Wahrzeichen des Resort
Logos langsam Gestalt an: Im Disneyland park ragen die Türme des
Schlosses in den Himmel, flankiert von den Disneyland Mountains zu
beiden Seiten. Links das zerklüftete Gesicht von Big Thunder
Mountain und rechts die futuristische Architektur von Space Mountain.
Nebenan kann man sehr einfach die Walt Disney Studios ausmachen. In
der Mitte das riesige Studio 1 mit den beiden kleineren Studios 2
und 3 zu beiden Seiten. Die Kulisse der Studios wird gekrönt von
einem eigenen Icon, dem Earful Tower.
In den 30er Jahren waren Wassertürme kein ungewöhnlicher Anblick in
den Strassen von Hollywood. Die beeindruckenden Türme wurden
benötigt, um die Luft in den diversen Gebäuden der Filmstudios zu
heizen und zu kühlen und um Feuer auf dem Gelände zu löschen. Auch
wenn die Türme heute keinen Nutzen mehr haben, so blieben sie doch
als eindrucksvolle Wahrzeichen an den Eingängen vieler Studios
bestehen.Nach dem Erfolg von
Schneewittchen und die sieben Zwerge 1937 investierte Walt Disney in
ein 51 Morgen großes Stück Land in Burbank, Kalifornien, welches die
Heimat der Disney Film- und später auch Fernsehproduktion werden
sollte. Hier steht auch der Originalwasserturm, von dem die Version
in den Walt Disney Studios in Paris inspiriert wurde. |
